Curriculum guide

The Malaysian national curriculum is set by the Ministry of Education (KPM). Students progress through primary (UPSR), lower secondary (PT3, now assessments) and upper secondary (SPM) before Form 6 or Matriculation and then university. Internationally the curriculum is offered at Malaysian-affiliated schools and to Malaysian-diaspora families.
Six years of primary education. Bahasa Malaysia and English are compulsory throughout; strong mathematics and moral/religious education foundations.
Lower-secondary Forms 1–3 ending with the PT3 assessment; upper secondary Forms 4–5 culminating in SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) — the standard Malaysian school-leaving exam.
Optional two-year pre-university programme leading to the STPM (Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia) — a rigorous pre-university qualification recognised by universities internationally.
Malaysian
Universities within Malaysia accept SPM as an entry credential in combination with STPM or the government-run Matriculation programme. International universities typically ask for STPM or A-Level; SPM alone is usually not enough for most overseas entry.
