Braeburn Kisumu International School (BKIS) is a day, co-educational school in Kisumu, Kenya, aligned with the National Curriculum of England and Wales and adapted for local needs today. Established in 1985 and part of the Braeburn Group since 2007, BKIS delivers a continuous programme from early years to Year 11. The Early Years follow the UK EYFS with Foundation Stage 1 and 2, while the Primary and Secondary curricula are English-medium and culminate in Cambridge IGCSEs in Years 10–11; a BTEC qualification is also offered. From age 2 to 16, students study English, Maths, Science, Languages (French and Kiswahili), and numerous optional subjects, with SATs at the ends of Years 2 and 6. The school provides facilities: stocked library, music and art rooms, science laboratory, ICT suite, field, and buses. Notable features include Model United Nations, President's Award, ABRSM music exams, inter-school sport, and a Careers and University Advisor service.

The school operates within the National Curriculum of England and Wales, adapted for Kenya. The UK Early Years Foundation Stage Framework is closely followed in the early years, with the Early Learning Goals, the Letters and Sounds program, Foundation Stage 1 (ages 3-4) and Foundation Stage 2 (ages 4-5), and the Oxford Reading Tree reading scheme. The Primary curriculum includes English, Mathematics, Science, Topic (History and Geography), Computing, Art & Design Technology, French, Kiswahili, Music, Religious Education, and Personal Health and Social Education, with National Curriculum Standardised Assessments (SATs) at the end of Years 2 and 6. The Secondary program continues from the Primary framework and uses IGCSEs in Years 10–11, with Cambridge International Examinations as the external examination body; all pupils study English Literature, English Language and Mathematics and choose six additional subjects from a list that includes Art & Design, French, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Business Studies, ICT, History, Sociology and Geography. After completing IGCSEs, students may progress to a sixth form within the Braeburn Group or externally, with the Careers and University Advisor available to assist university and career planning.

The Personalised Learning Department provides support and challenge materials for learners who need additional learning support or are very able.
1. The school places children in year groups based on their ages as at 1st September; children can start at any time during the academic year. 2. Basic tests on joining include Salford Reading Tests as well as age-appropriate English and Mathematics tests to identify pupil needs and tailor the curriculum. 3. Parents may visit the school during term time or holidays and will be invited to meet the Head Teacher and take a tour to discuss questions; overseas parents can communicate by email or telephone if they cannot visit before arriving. 4. An equal opportunity admissions policy provides special educational needs support through classroom-based teaching with additional support from a special needs teacher if deemed necessary. 5. After completing an application form (which can be provided by email), return it to the Head Teacher with previous school records and/or examination results, a birth certificate and a passport photograph; you will be contacted to join Parent Workshops at the start of the academic year and will receive a copy of the Parent Handbook by email. 6. A Family Picnic is typically held during the first couple of weeks of each term for socialising. 7. Children joining mid-year can spend time with the class before joining; this is especially useful for EYFS. 8. Admissions process: before starting, visit for a tour or have an informal chat with the headteacher; final admission is subject to interview with the headteacher. 9. Upon successful completion you will receive a letter from the headteacher confirming placement and start date. 10. The school is a member of the Braeburn Group of International Schools. 11. Waiting lists: where a year group is full, new admissions will be placed on a waiting list; waiting lists operate on a first come, first served basis; priority may be given to siblings. 12. Siblings: children with siblings already attending the school will be given priority in waiting lists; there is a discount on tuition fees for siblings.
External & Internal Scholarship application for the 2026/27 academic year - Now Open. Scholarships are up to 20% off tuition fees in categories: Academics, All round, Excellence in cocurricular, Leadership. Requirements for application: two most recent academic reports; application letter from the student detailing the achievements; a character reference from any previous form tutor or Deputy/Headteacher; a reference from a specialist area (eg Music, Swimming) citing notable achievements. Applications should be emailed to kisumu.scholarships@braeburn.ac.ke. Deadline: 21st Nov 2025. Only successful candidates will be shortlisted for interviews.
