Saturday School sessions are two hours per Saturday; the school year runs from April 1 to March 31 and is divided into three terms.

The school is governed and owned by the Corporation Japanese School in Zurich.

The Japanese School in Zurich runs a Day School and a Saturday School. Day School offers Kindergarten, Elementary, Junior Secondary, International Class (AM/PM), and High School. Saturday School provides Japanese-language instruction for Kindergarten, Elementary, Junior Secondary, International Class, and International High School, with two hours of instruction every Saturday. In Elementary and Junior Secondary, the program aims to improve understanding of the Japanese language, the ability to express it, and to foster interest and respect for the language, following the grade-specific syllabus. The International Class is for students whose mother tongue is not Japanese and extends Japanese-language ability, while the International High School focuses on expressing and understanding the language, enhancing communication, developing thinking and imagination, and deepening interest in language culture. The Kindergarten program includes Hiragana preparation and is taught on Saturdays, with two hours per session.

Admission fee: The admission fee is paid once at the time of admission or transfer. Payment is also required when transferring from Saturday School to Day School. The admission fee must be paid by the designated deadline for admission to be officially permitted. A refund after payment is not permitted. All children who are members of the Corporation Japanese School in Zurich are exempt from half of the prescribed admission fee. If there are three or more registered children in one household, the admission fee is exempt starting from the third registered child. If a student is enrolled for less than half a year at the time of admission, he or she is exempt from half of the prescribed admission fee; other exemption provisions cannot be combined with this one. Tuition fee: Tuition fees must be paid by the due date for each term. Transferees during a term pay a prorated amount based on the annual tuition fee. If there are three or more registered children in one household, half of the tuition fee is exempt starting from the third child. If a student is temporarily absent, he or she is exempted from half of the tuition fee. When a student transfers to the school after a term has started and the number of days left is less than half of the number of remaining class days, half of the paid tuition fee will be refunded; this does not apply to transferees during the term. How to pay: Make a transfer payment to the designated bank account. Day School tuition can be paid by term or by installments; if you choose installments, apply to the school office at least 10 days before the start of the term. Installment payments incur a commission. If the payment is not made by the due date, a reminder fee is charged; details are determined separately. Various fees: CHF 7 is charged for each certificate issued by the school (payment certificate, transcript, enrollment certificate, etc.). Reminder and debt collection: Those who do not pay the contribution by the due date incur reminder costs. A second reminder with an additional CHF 20 is issued. In case of early payment difficulties, the Japanese School in Zurich will consider an installment plan; reminders are issued in Japanese. If payment is still not received, debt collection will be initiated, which can lead to expulsion.

The school provides boarding as a core component of its program. It operates separate boys' and girls' dormitories with a dedicated dorm parent for each. The dorm mother and dorm father supervise life in the dorms and provide further support and guidance to students; they do not teach. Dorm life is a central aspect of student life at KLAS.

KLAS was founded in 1990 and is owned by the Kumon Gakuen Educational Foundation. It is accredited by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and recognized by the Vaud cantonal education authorities.

KLAS provides a strong university preparatory education in a school community that fosters moral and intellectual growth, competence in academic and extracurricular areas, an appreciation of creativity and artistic expression, and an understanding of people of other traditions and cultures.

Graduates are eligible for acceptance into Japanese and non-Japanese universities.
